  • Celebrity Impressions - 10 yea

    • From: danm2626
    • Description:

      Oprah Staff:

The video is of my 10 year old son, Jackson, who is also the youngest professional movie critic in America. Jackson (a.k.a. "Lights-Camera-Jackson") has had his own movie reviews website (www.lights-camera-jackson.com) for about a year and a half, and in September he got his own weekly film critic segment on a local TV station. He's also been doing movie reviews on the radio since he was 7 1/2.

Jackson is an amazing talent. I couldn't link his TV review work for you due to copyright issues, but you can see his segments here:

      http://capitalnews9.com/content/living/lightscamerajackson/Default.aspx

and you can read his reviews, listen to his podcasts and see his box office wrap-up on his site.

But one of his most incredible talents is his ability to do impressions. He was born with the ability to hear a voice, sometimes only once or twice, and then duplicate it. Obviously his love for the entertainment business leads him to doing many celebrity impressions (the one's on this clip are of some of the 2008 Oscar nominees), but he also does political figures, cartoon characters and regular people. It's really something to watch and hear.

Nothing against the other kids you have on your site, they're all very talented, but when was the last time you heard a 10-year do impressions...and just NAIL THEM? I'm guessing never.

The other thing that makes Jackson so unique is that he is a "Kid Critic" - he reviews Kids/Family movies from a kids point of view. Other kids, and PARENTS especially love this, because they get insight and advice on a movie they might be thinking of taking their kids to...from a real kid...and not some 45 year old man who, for obvious reasons, can't relate to these films the way a 10-year old can.

And Lights-Camera-Jackson knows his stuff. He is a student of film and pop culture. He can tell you the actors, plot, release date and box office take of practically every movie that's been released in the past 3-years. And he knows the year that every Disney film came out - cold.

Last year he saw 46 films in the theater. Some weekends we hit one Friday night another on Saturday.

And, along with his reviews, he also does celebrity interviews. I know he'd love to ask Oprah a few questions about her film career.

Check out his website and on-air work. I think you'll agree that Jackson fits your criteria as both smart and talented.

Thanks for allowing me to write to you about him and I appreciate you considering him for the show.

      Sincerely,

      Dan Murphy

Jackson would make a great guest on your show as he could also do review some recent films or, and this would be very timely, do a SUMMER MOVIE PREVIEW.

  • Jaden Huggins Amazing kid Golf

    • From: fourhuggs
    • Description:
My name is Sara Huggins and I am writing on behalf of my 5 year old son Jaden Huggins.  He is an amazing golfer who has been playing since he was 18 months old! Of course his nuber on idol is Tiger Woods and Camillo Villegas but has yet to see them face to face.  Most recently Jaden got to spend some one on one time with Andy Bean and Fuzzy Zoeller at the Champions Tournaments" Wells Fargo Clinic in Newport Beach a couple of weeks ago(he was even interviewed for the Daily Sun newspaper in Newport Beach!)  Andy Bean was taken back by Jadens genuine LOVE for this sport that he took the hat off his own(Andy's) head and signed it and gave it to Jaden.  Just when we thought the excitment was done Andy gave us tickets for the next day's events!  We came the next day and Andy spotted Jaden in the crowd and tossed him a ball from the course.  As the events wrapped up and Andy was signing autographs for everyone, all 3ft.9in. of Jaden said, "Andy Bean, do you want to have a putting contest?" I was blown away that he would ask such a thing!! To my utter amazment Andy said, "You're on!" Andy escorted him to the roped off section of the Pros practice green and there Jaden had his first competition with a Pro.  Jaden was so thrilled to be there behind the ropes with a star of the sport, despite the gathering crowd and strangers rooting and cheering his name he managed to finish "all square".  By Andys request, we are to be there next year, same time and same place for a rematch!  Jaden has a passion for this game and loves to be on the course.  Cartoon channel is a thing he hardly watches anymore thanks to the constant viewing of the Golf Channel.  He eats, sleeps and breathes golf and would sleep on the golf course if we let him. Jaden has a light about him that is just contagous and a talent beyond his years! Thanks so much for your consideration and for this great oppurtunity!

  • Matthew Dane Peavoy Classical

    • From: peavoyrc
    • Description:

      Hello Oprah Show!

This is Matthew Dane Peavoy. I just turned 15 years old. I'm a classically trained accordionist and pianist from Central Alberta, Canada. I've been playing piano since I was 4 and accordion since I was 8.

Normally the words accordion and classical never meet in the same sentence,  but I have put a unique twist on this largely traditional, yet absolutely magnificant instrument. I have come to love the classics, being much more complicated and appreciated by everyone that I play for. I have been found to get numerous standing ovations, while also being able to bring some audience members to tears with my interpretation and feeling of the piece. This is what sets me apart from other performers, as I literally feel the music and listen and enjoy it while I play.

The accordion is the only instrument that can represent a full 50 piece orchestra, and I have not found an instrument that I can't represent with this versatile instrument [piccilo, oboe, violin, basoon, organ, snare drum, egg shaker, etc]. The accordion, unlike instruments like the piano for example, can make notes start soft and grow into grand chords, like many wind instruments. I can also represent the violin's bowing by use of the bellows and I have discovered how to make the accordion laugh and cry.

The accordion is also one of the most difficult instruments to play, balancing bellow control, note accuracy, dynamics, touch, phrasing, which bass buttons to press [impossible to see], and all at the same time remembering to breathe [least important to me, yet very crutial!]

I have been through many competitions and great performances. I have competed numerous times in local festivals on piano and accordion. I have performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, in August of 2007 with the Calgary Jarosh Accordion Ensemble. I have also competed in the American Accordion Association/American Teacher's Guild International Competition in Washington D.C, placing second in one category.

My greatest achievement to date is winning the Red Deer Festival of the Performing Arts' top award, out of 6,000 people, which was a performance opportunity to perform with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, which took place on December 8, 2008, with Maestro Claude Lapalme conducting. I played this piece, Czardas, with the full 50 piece orchestra backing me up, along with playing Ave Maria that evening. It has been the highlight of my musical career and an absolutely amazing experience!

I am currently also studying Grade 10 Royal Conservatory piano in addition to playing Trombone, Alto Sax, Euphonium, Trumpet, and numerous percussion instruments. I have also arranged several pieces for my Junior High Band, and composed several pieces on piano and accordion. I have also been referred to numerous times as a prodigy on accordion and piano, though I am not yet willing to place this title on myself.

I hope you enjoy these selections, "Czardas" and "Dark Eyes" as much as I do. Please listen to my other submissions. This opportunity would revolutionize the entire accordion world, as this style of playing is largely unknown.

      Thank you!

  • Nahshon's Artworks 8-13 yrs of

    • From: haircurl
    • Description:

Nahshon O’Neil Hollis was born in Bermuda to parents O’Neil and Shawn Hollis on May 6th 1995. He is a 13 year-old self-taught imaginative oil painter that has a very fine talent and an eye for perfection and detail.

Nahshon attended Wee Learn Nursery which at the young age of two, first said he wanted to be a famous artist. Even in the earliest of his childhood could you see he had a God-given gift when compared to his peers. Most of his nursery years of work are in the hands of his nursery teacher that he would draw a picture for daily. At age six he attended Elliot Primary School. From here is when his talent became more evident to everyone around him. On career day, he dressed up in a painter’s shirt and a beret and boldly repeated that he wanted to be a famous artist. He got more involved and won many prizes for school related art competitions. He has won in three Junior Spring into the Arts awards and City Hall art competition awards, back to back Peoples Choice Awards and placed third in the Adult Quick Art competition for the Bank of Butterfield Art Festival, all in the age range of eight to ten. He was also a winner of the “One World, One People” competition for the Declaration of Human Rights for the United Nations. He has also been featured in events such as the Premiers Concert where he  ‘wowed the crowed’, a beautiful and tranquil presentation of his pieces in the Spring into the Arts constructed by his music teacher, live painting for raising funds for “PRIDE” and also the RG and Bermuda Homes & Gardens 2008 Edition magazines. He has also made a great accomplishment at his current age of thirteen in showcasing his works in his very first art show at the newly revamped Masterworks Museum of Arts located in the beautiful Botanical Gardens.

Nahshon was inspired early in his life watching cartoon doodling when he was just in his pampers. He was greatly inspired by Bob Ross who he frequently watched any chance he could. From there, he branched onto his own mystical-style filled with more texture and a more classical look.

Nahshon has been selling his art since age nine and to date has sold about twenty pieces. Nahshon’s parents and sister Shanna give as much support as they can for their talented member of the family. He strives for perfection and detail in his art which can be lucidly shown in his latest pieces. He creates colorful, bright, serene and spiritual pieces which some viewers say can even be portrayed in his landscapes. Nahshon still plans to become the artist that he wants to be and hopes to help and inspire the world through his fine art.

    • From: wuxipoo
    • Description:
Julie has been a black belt in Kung Fu since the age of 8. She was adopted in China as an infant at the age of 8 1/2 months and had to overcome severe developmental delays in her motor skills. She has gone on to win Grand Championships in advanced traditional Kung Fu at the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship, the largest Chinese martial arts competition in North America. She currently performs in community events and demos and trains with Sifu John Vanegas from Shaolin Kung Fu Academy in Pembroke Pines, FL. You can see additional videos on her Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/wuxipoo. She has become proficient in many weapons: sword, sword and shield, staff, tiger hooks, and Kwan Dao to name a few. Kwan Dao is a long bladed weapons (shown in the second half of this video) that most students don't learn until they are about 15 or older. She also does a form called Shaolin 10, which is the hardest Shaolin form taught. The last person her Sifu taught the form to was 25 years old (14 years ago) and it took the guy one year to master it. Julie learned it in two months and has won gold with it. She is probably one of the top female traditional Kung Fu kids in her age bracket in the country. Watch her video and also some of her Youtubes and you will see a ferocity that most people do not see in female Kung Fu practitioner. You may see kids doing XMA with flips, etc., but note that those forms are usually about 45 seconds long. She does a form that is 1 1/2 minutes and most adults can't get though it do to the kicking. Her Sifu makes her do it six times, one right after the other. He tells her "train hard, fight easy." Julie is looking forward to becoming a Sifu (Kung Fu instructor) someday and already helps teach the little kids class

  • Alexandra Valmorbida - I'm Ove

    • From: valmor232
    • Description:

Hi. My name is Alexandra Valmorbida. I am a 14 year old singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. I have been singing since I can remember and began writing songs only about a year ago. I find songwriting very gratifying. Sometimes I write from life experience but at 14 years of age, I don’t have a lot of that, so sometimes I just use my imagination and tell a story. I love reading, so I get lots of ideas from reading. Songwriting is a bit like being an author.  I try to pick topics that people will be able to identify with. Most successful songs are about relationships, good or bad, happy or sad. This one is about a relationship that’s over. I hope to continue writing songs and to someday become a recording artist.

  • Jordyn, 8 year old singer

    • From: sharonpf11
    • Description:

Jordyn started singing before she could even string together a proper sentence. At age 2 she performed onstage at a church festival, and she has been performing ever since! I have never seen a child so passionate about music. She loves it all, and naturally picks up songs and instruments. Without any vocal or instrumental lessons, I have seen her grow from a toddler belting out a song (albeit while-butchering the lyrics,) and pounding on the keyboard, to a promising young singer who can sing show tunes, pop, and opera, write her own songs, and play the piano, harmonica, and guitar. Jordyn also loves to act and dance, and frequently performs in musicals. She also writes her own scripts and at times, has turned our house into a theater! In Kindergarten, Jordyn wrote a scaled down version of the musical "Wicked," cast it with children from her class, designed fliers and tickets on her computer, and held rehearsals during recess at school. In first grade, she put together a band called "The Super Stars," asked Santa for a guitar, and went to work writing songs, rehearsing, and designing a website for the group. She even wrote a book about the band called "The Super Stars," which was professionally printed and read at her school. On any given day you can find Jordyn with her music notebook, where she writes lyrics to the songs she has composed on her computer. Jordyn is a very driven young lady and I have no doubt she will make her dreams come true. That dream of hers, has been the same as long as I can remember- to star on Broadway, and open a farm for homeless animals.

Jordyn receives a lot of accolades and attention due to her musical abilities, but she never lets it go to her head. I know as her mother, I am biased but I am just so proud of her humility and her heart. Like most families, we have certainly dealt with our share of hardships and loss over the years, but Jordyn always seems to remain positive. In addition to being an excellent student, she is a great friend, daughter, sister and budding humanitarian. Jordyn has volunteered with me at a local crisis center for years, entertaining the little children as I help their mothers. She is always willing to lend a hand, and she is rarely argumentative (well maybe a little when is comes to picking up her room!) One thing I have always tried to instill in both my children is, if you don't use your talents to help others then you are wasting the gift God gave you. Last Spring Jordyn was in a local production of "Annie," when she met an amazing young man named Tyler Page, who started the organization Kids Helping Kids (www.kidzhelpingkids.com .) 10 year old Tyler, had been inspired while watching an episode of Oprah, and started this awesome group that does exactly what it says, it allows kids to help other kids! The children in the group all have various talents, and with Kids Helping Kids they can use their talents to provide support and inspire other children. Jordyn is so excited to be a part of this group, and wanted me to mention it.

I  haven't allowed Jordyn to audition for an agent (much to her dismay.) I prefer to allow things to happen naturally, and we decide which opportunities to pursue together.  Right now Jordyn is in between shows, so she is working on her own pod cast, and writing "Eloise, the Musical." She is also now teaching her self to yodel, after seeing the young lady do it on Oprah (thank you for that!)

There are a lot amazing children on this site, thank you for taking the time to include my little one among them.

  • There's A Place by Alexandria

    • From: bmaillot
    • Description:
Vancouver Island teen, Alexandria Maillot, has a wealth of experiences and performing opportunities that most singer/songwriters would love to include in their resume: performing at the Nile Song Festival in Egypt, The Golden Star in Romania, the Vancouver Island Music Festival, and the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, to name a few. The highlight was being invited by David Foster to perform in Toronto with Jann Arden for "A World of Possibilities", the concert marking the opening of the Michael Lee Chin wing of the Royal Ontario Museum. Feeling a desire to express her creative side, over the past year she set her sites on expanding her resume to song writing. And with her hard work, her efforts paid off. An original song she wrote, "Revolution", which she co-wrote with producer Joby Baker and her sister, Amanda Maillot, was a finalist in the We Are Listening song contest, and was picked by Universal in Europe for one of their artists, Stefanie Heinzmann. The song reached top 10 in Europe, and her CD went gold. Another one of Alexandria's songs, "Confession", was picked up again by Universal for another artist of theirs, and should be released in early 2009. In addition to these songs, Alexandria has been approached by other companies for song projects for television, radio and commercial placement. For more information about Alexandria, and to listen to more of her original songs, please go to her myspace page: www.myspace.com/alexandriamaillot.

While in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas in September 1999, she was scouted by a local Agency. Her family brought her to HOLLYWOOD in January 2000 to compete in IMTA (International Model & Talent Association). And in February 2000, made the move to LA. Ambrosia has been BLESSED to work with some of the most talented Actors in HOLLYWOOD! She worked with one of her Idols, Jennifer Lopez, and was choreographed by Darrin Henson, at The 28TH Annual American Music Awards. She was a Runway Model for The Macy’s Passport, which was MC’d by Magic Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor. In that Fashion Show, she worked with Will Smith’s son, Trey. Ambrosia worked on a K-Mart Commercial that was directed by Spike Lee. She Co-Starred in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for the Literacy Council with Lucy Lui, Pierce Brosnan and Antonio Banderas. Just last year, she worked on another PSA, this time she worked with Masi Oka from the Hit TV Show “Heroes”. Ambrosia has several Co-Starring roles on Television hit shows, which include… “Popular”, “The Parkers”, “CSI Miami”, “Astronauts” Pilot , “MADTV”, a couple of episodes of “Half and Half”, and in “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, she did a skit with Comedian Kathy Griffin. As for Feature Films, Her first was her most famous, “Kill Bill, Vol. 1”, which she played the role of Nikki Bell, playing the daughter of Vivica A. Fox. Ambrosia also got a chance to work with Uma Thurman and was directed by one of the most talented Directors in HOLLYWOOD…Quentin Tarantino! And just last year, she worked on a Feature Film called “This Christmas”. Ambrosia played the role of Tori Moore. She played the daughter of Regina King. Loretta Devine played her Grandmother and the Great Hip Hop Singer Sensation Chris Brown played her Uncle! Another great Director, Preston A. Whitmore II, directed this Film. Ambrosia currently is working on another Feature Film called “Stacy’s Mom”. Fountain of Wayne bases this Film on the song by the same name. Another venture came along for Ambrosia. She was scouted back in August, by Margaret McDonald, a Music Manager and is currently working on an Album produced by Gorden Campbell. To our amazement, Ambrosia has the ability to write her own songs! And, she even has the knack for the songs melodies! The first song she wrote was inspired by the Feature Film she worked on, “This Christmas”. For that reason she named her song “Whitfield’s Christmas”, which was produced by XL. Her second song is called “Best Friends Forever”, which she performed for a Television Show in Corpus Christi, Texas. You can view it on YOUTUBE.

    • Description:
Last year, Christian was inspired to compose and dedicate his very first piece "White Tigers at Snowfall" for two people, his beloved piano teacher who was given the news he had cancer and his favourite pianist and mentor, William Joseph. Christian composed this piece when he was seven years old and just five days ago, Christian's piano teacher passed away, they had been kindred spirits and Christian will never forget his "perfect" teacher. Christian Laurian was blessed with an extraordinary talent to play the piano, and his music brings many people to tears as they truly feel his heart when he plays. Although only eight years old, Christian plays with the maturity and sensitivity of a seasoned performer. Christian made his concert debut at age five and feels most at home when he is performing on stage. Christian has had many memorable performances including: a guest appearance in his hero William's Joseph's concert in Canada, concerts in Spain, performed several nights at the formal dining room of the Royal Caribean "Voyager Of the Seas", and most recently was a special guest performer for a gala charity event in front of 1,000 people for the Premier of Alberta. However, Christian also loves sharing his musical gifts with kids at the Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House where he loves to make kids smile when he plays the piano for them. Christian also loves composing and recently began writing his first piano concerto in F#minor, "When Calls the Heart." It is a fitting title for an eight year old boy who truly plays from his heart. • From: blapat68
    • Description:
Dear Ophra's gang, I wanted to tell you about my son Wes. He is a 14 year old that was determined to fly. He has always loved planes and knows most of them by name. Always looking up in the sky watching them. One day Wes came to us with the information on how to get started on flight lessons and the money to pay for his first one. He has always been a kid with lots of hope and dreams. How could we say,"no". I have always told him he can do anything he sets he mind to. So how can I expect him to live outside of “our box " if I don't let him dream big? He has been flying now for six months taking an one hour lesson each month and his flight instructor said," if he was sixteen years old he would sign him off for his first solo flight." He has lots of talent in so many different areas honor student, plays drums, wake boards, and making videos. Wesley made this video from clips taken during his flight lessons. If only all of us would act on the things we are interested in when we are young, just think of all the experience we would have by the time we get out of high school and know what we would like to do the rest of our lives.
