From the time our son was just a baby, we could see that he had a love for music, drums in particular. So, for Christmas last year, he got several little drums and rhythm instruments. After that, he was totally hooked. Everything he saw became a drum or a drumstick - bowls, plates, the toilet, spoons, straws, etc. By the time he was 18 months old, he could keep a steady beat with one hand while playing a different beat with his other hand. He just kept getting better and better! At 20 months, his grandfather, a musician, heard him playing his bowls and plates and said he thought about getting him a drumset, but didn't know if he was ready for it or not. And then Ashton had a chance to play a real drumset, something he had only done a handful of times before. When his Poppi heard that, he realized that Ashton was ready for a drumset, so when he turned 2 in August, he got one. Ashton has been improving drastically every week since then. He'll go to his drums and play rhythms he's never played before and just amazes us! Both his dad and I are musicians and are thrilled that he's musically gifted as well, but neither of us are drummers, so he's been totally self-taught so far. He repeats rhythms that we say or try to play, but he's better than we are! I asked him the other day if he wanted to be on the Oprah show, and he couldn't stop saying, "Oprah! I see Oprah!" So, on the video where he says, "Oprah" at the end, that was all his idea - we couldn't have planned that if we tried!

Joshua is an amazing and talented 5 year old kid drummer – self taught. He first started with pots, pans, lids and wooden spoons at age an early age of 18 months old. On this video he improvised this 2 minute piece on the spot. With an incredible ear for music, he also likes to demonstrate his abilities to do drum covers.
